IASIA is proud to announce that Wolfgang Drechsler, Member of the Board of Management and Professor of Government at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance, Tallinn University of Technology, received the 2017 Senator Peter B. Boorsma Award at SECoPA (the Southeastern Conference of Public Administration) 37th Annual Conference in Hollywood Beach, Florida, on 5 October.
Among the most prestigious recognitions in international public administration, the Boorsma Award honors “the practitioner or academician for facilitating over a period of many years the international exchange of knowledge and administrative practices that foster better performance in the public sector. We are glad to announce that Dr. Allan Rosenbaum, former IASIA President and current chair of the ICAPA Board, received the Enrique B. Rodriguez award for his work on building local democracy and good governance in Latin America.
During its 12th Congress, the Ibero-American Union of Municipalists (UIM), awarded its highest honor, the Enrique B. Rodriguez Municipalist Award, to Dr. Allan Rosenbaum, the Director of the Institute for Public Management and Community Service (IPMCS) at Florida International University (FIU) in recognition of his more than 25 years of work in building and strengthening local governments and promoting good governance throughout Latin America. Dr. Rosenbaum is the first North American to be so honored by the UIM, a Spanish government supported non-governmental organization which is based in Granada, Spain and has worked throughout Latin America for over a quarter century.
The President of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (and IIAS specialised entity), Professor Bianor Scelza Cavalcanti, has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the Public Administration Review (PAR), a renowned U.S. scientific journal of Public Administration with global reach. The professor will hold a three-year term on the Board.
Published by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) since 1940, PAR is available in thousands of libraries around the world, regarded as one of the most prominent and recognized journals in its field. The publication currently ranks first on the Google Scholar ranking in the field of Public Policy and Administration, and second in the Web of Science ranking in the field of Public Administration. PAR’s content was accessed more than 1 million times in 2016 alone.
Former dean of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), Professor Cavalcanti currently holds the position of International Affairs Director at FGV.

This 6 June, we had the pleasure to welcome at the IIAS new headquarter our colleague, Mr. César Rojas Alfonzo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Group for Public Administration (LAGPA), the IIAS regional entity.
Aside from paying the Institute a visit, César was here to debrief the IIAS Congress in Aix-en-Provence where he represented LAGPA President, Prof. Edgar Varela Barrios, but also to discuss next year’s planned Joint Conference with the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA).

We are happy to announce that Dr. Sofiane Sahraoui was appointed as the new Director general of the IIAS during the Council of Administration meeting in February 2017. He took his office on May 2nd, succeeding Mr. Rolet Loretan who is retiring.
Mr. Loretan has held this position since November 2006 and the IIAS is grateful for his commitment during those past ten years at the head of the Permanent administrative services of the Institute and we wish him all the best in this new chapter in his life.
Dr Sahraoui is a well-known figure in the IIAS Family. A Franco-Tunisian national, he worked at the Bahrain Institute of Public Administration (BIPA) for many years. He participated to the foundation of the MENAPAR Network and is sitting at the Board of Management of our International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) as well as co-chair of its working group on “Public Policy and Decision-Making.” He was designated as General Rapporteur of the 2013 Congress of IIAS/IASIA and the 2017 IASIA/MENAPAR conference.

During the IIAS-IASIA Joint Congress in Chengdu, the Presidents of IIAS and IASIA were elected for their respective three years terms.
Bianor Cavalcanti from the Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil, was elected IASIA Board of Management. He succeeds to Michiel S. de Vries who will remain in the Board as immediate past president and the IIAS/IASIA wishes to express its gratitude for his services at the head of the Association.
Geert Bouckaert from KU Leuven, Belgium, was re-elected as IIAS President by the general Assembly.
Congratulations to Geert and Bianor.

The Executive Editors of Developments in Administration – The e-journal of IIAS, IASIA and regional groups are pleased to inform you that the first issue of the e-journal is now available.
This e-journal aims at expanding knowledge about developments in the public administration and public sector in countries and regions not extensively covered in the major journals in Public Administration and this issue issue covers countries and topics such a Sustainable development, alternative public service deliveries, decision-making in times of crisis in Brazil, public service quality and perception in Qatar and public service failures in Nigeria and Ghana.
Developments in Administration is only available electronically. You can download the whole journal as a PDF document, or choose to read individual article (as a PDF or on the website).

We have the pleasure to announce that Juraj Nemec was elected president of NISPACee during its annual conference that just took place in Zagreb. Juraj is Professor of Public Finance and Public Management, at Masaryk University (Czech Republic) and a long-time friend of IASIA/IIAS. He is further involved in IASIA’s management as Vice-President for Publications.
