Report on the Joint CAG-IASIA-IIAS-NISPAcee-ASPA Seminar, November 8-13, 2010.
From 8-13 November, a joint seminar of the Chinese Academy of Governance (CAG), the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), the Chinese Society of Administrative Reform (CSOAR), the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), the Network of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe (NISPAcee) and the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) took place at the Chinese Academy of Governance in Beijing and the Guangxi Institute of Public Administration in Nanning, China. The seminar brought together members of the governing bodies of the above mentioned associations as well as scholars from China.
The first two days of the seminar took place in Beijing. After an Opening Ceremony in which the Executive Vice President of CAG, Mr. Wei Liqun, IASIA President Prof. Valeria Termini, IIAS President Prof. Pan Suk Kim as well as the Presidents of NISPAcee and ASPA, Ms. Ludmila Gajdosova and Dr. Meredith Newman, delivered welcome remarks, the theme of ?Governmental Responses to the Global Financial Crisis? was discussed. On the second day, the seminar focused on ?Encouraging Excellence in Public Administration Education and Training?. Two days later, at the seminar in Nanning, Guangxi Province these themes were revisited. Apart from discussions centering on the main themes, the seminar proved to be an excellent opportunity for the participating associations to strengthen their ties. In this respect, during the second part of the seminar in Nanning a meeting between the Presidents of IASIA, NISPAcee and ASPA as well as the Director General of IIAS took place in which possibilities of future cooperation between the four participating associations were explored.
We would like to thank the Chinese Academy of Governance for their hospitality, their generous support and the excellent organisation of the seminar.
